What is the hump for on the aft portion of my 1966 doghouise? My parts pickup doghouse is flat on the bottom.

That is for clearance at the rear of the 240 engine, the bellhousing to block area.
I have had a handful of bone stock econo's that came with a small six and the big six doghouse.
Not 100% on this but I think i read somewhere that that doghouse is a bit taller as well.

The doghouse changed in 1965. It's taller than the earlier one and has the hump, as mentioned earlier. If you are going to put in a V8, the later doghouse makes it much easier.

My 62 5 window had a original 144 and had the dog house with the hump in the bottom the 250 is about an inch or inch and a half taller

Mine is also the heavy duty model with the 9 inch rear if that makes a difference
