The stang trans should work, you will want a short tailshaft for it to be able to use the stock driveline.

So I would still need the tail shaft even though its already automatic I would think its already been done..where would I find this tail shaft if I did need it?

If you already have an auto trans in the van, you move the output shaft and rear cover from the bad transmission to the new transmission.

This assumes that you have the special Econoline transmission in your van. They did not come in the 1962 Econolines, so it is possible that you already have a long tail transmission, and a special, sort drive shaft.

The Mustang transmission will work. Compare it to your old one.

You will need a custom driveshaft. Be sure to get a pro to do it. Carolina Driveline does excellent work.

Did the 77 Maverick have the same/similar engine? Transmissions for the 170 and 200 engines will interchange.

You will need to make a bracket to support the rear end of the transmission. The stock Econoline automatic had a special short tailshaft with a special mount that will not bolt directly to the 1963 transmission mount. I've seen a few run a piece of angle iron under the transmission welded to the van frame.
