I have a 1962 Econoline pickup. It came without an engine, trans or driveshaft. It is in excellent cosmetic shape.I have the opportunity to buy a 1964 econoline van with a 170 auto trans that is running. The van appears to be in good cosmetic shape as well. I'm considering buying the van, pulling the drivetrain for my pickup, and reselling the rest of the van.

Good idea or bad idea?

That would be the easiest way, you would have all the small parts needed that would be hard to track down.

I suppose there would be a market for the shell of the van? Windows, doors, etc?

Yes on selling the shell. Where are you located?

Oh, now I remember you are in OK. That's too far for me.

The 1964 auto trans to frame mount was unique. There were seperate holes in the bracket that is welded to the frame for the two kinds of transmissions. Thus you will have to slightly modify the trans mount in your 1962 to make the auto trans fit. Other than that it should swap out easily.

Thanks for the info.
I am going to go look at the van tomorrow. The van looks really good in pictures. We shall see.
