If anyone knows the length the tail gate chains are supposed to be ?

The chains that came with the Truck was about 6" long, not long enough
for the tail gate to lay flat. I think they should be 23" or 24" long.

However this may play havoc with the new paint job !

I realize that the chain could be cover with plastic or rubber hose.

Just want to make sure before I made it up.

Thank You inadvance for your help!

The chains arent for holding the tailgate in a flat position, they merely retain the hooks from coming completely off when unlatched to open the tailgate. The tailgate is stopped at the open "flat" position by a set of folding steel rods on each side that fit into a hole on the bed and on each side of the tailgate.
