New here, I've had my '65 deluxe pickup for about 16 years and have enjoyed my 170/3 speed the whole time. I've been thinking about taking the engine/trans out of a later model Ford Ranger to have a trouble free fuel injected cruiser. Has anyone gone that way or thought about it?

I have thought about it, never done it.

I see no reason it wouldn't be a good swap, plenty of room and looking at specs it should have more tha enough power so why not.
I was also looking at a swap from an 89 thunderbird turbo coupe, 4cyl turbo would be sweet in there.

I firgured on mounting all the electronics behind the drivers seat in a "control panel" type box so they were easy to get to yet hidden.
They make alot of power add-on stuff for that engine as well.

Yes, they compare very favorably, especially when you consider the Ranger is like 1000 lbs heavier.

'65 Ford 170 cu. in inline six 105HP 158 lb/ft torque

2001 Ford Ranger

Standard Engine 2.5L 119 hp I4
Horsepower 119 @ 5000 RPM
Torque (lb-ft) 146 @ 3000 RPM

I've also been trying to figure out if there's anyway to put a Mustang II front end under it :D
